About Course

Do you have a story to tell?

Leigh Hopkins’ beloved Sedona retreat is now available as a self-paced online course! Transformative Storytelling is a 4-week guided journey that turns writing into a tool for meaningful change. Move through the lessons at your own pace as you create space to honor your life’s most important stories. Explore your life stories as points of connection, awakening, reinvention, or release.

Through engaging video and audio lessons, selected readings, writing prompts, and embodied practices, you’ll revisit the stories you’ve been told about who you are and begin to see them with new eyes.

Give the experiences that have shaped you the care honor they deserve.

This self-study workshop comes with the option to receive a discounted 1:1 Writing Coaching Session with Leigh Hopkins.

WEEK 1: Origin Stories and Creation Myths
Every story begins somewhere—and so do we. In Week 1, you’ll explore the stories that have shaped your sense of self—the personal memories, family myths, and cultural lineages that mark your beginning. This week is an opportunity to honor where you’ve come from, to notice what still feels true, and to release what no longer belongs. You’ll have an opportunity to read stories, poems, and myths from diverse writers and traditions that model different ways of telling how a life begins. Let these voices inspire you as you write your own creation myth: a retelling of how you came to be. As you write, you may discover that your story expands and transforms, revealing new layers of meaning and belonging in the mystery of your becoming.

WEEK 2: Understory
Beneath every story we tell lies another one—deeper, so difficult to reach that it's often unseen. Every story has layers. The surface story is what happened—the visible sequence of events. The understory is what lives beneath it: the emotions, beliefs, and formative experiences that shaped how the story was lived later told. That's what we're exploring this week.

WEEK 3: Witness to the Miraculous, Embracing the Surreal
This week, you’ll explore how speculative and surreal elements can illuminate the hidden layers of your life story.

WEEK 4: Unraveling the Threads of Transformation

EXTENSIONS: Transformative Reading and Publishing Your Work
